On Saturday morning Thomas Gant, a resident of Woolston, while walking along the° railway crossing at Lin wood, was knocked down by a railway engine. He suffered a fracture of the skull and was badly bruised. He was conveyed to tho Christchureh Hospital. Last night ho was reported to be slightly improved in condition. AUCKLAND, July 11. * A man named George Mirfin, aged 68 a resident of Ponsonby, was knocked down by a bicyclo last night, and died in the hospital from concussion and shock. HAMILTON, July 10. Tho inquest on Maria Turner, an elderly woman, who was knocked down a fortnight ago by a motor-car, driven by John Campbell Johnston, and who died within an hour, was concluded today. The Coroner found that the deceased died of injuries accidentally received, by being knocked down by a motor-car. He added that the evidence showed want of care on tho part of Johnstone, and that, the matter was one for the consideration of the police. CAMBRIDGE, July 10.
