FOOTING THE BILL.

"When the Governments decision as to the readjustment of wages and conditions in the railways is made known, it is probable that the Prime- Minister will also give an indication of how the charges are to be met (says Saturday's Wellington "Pest"). It is roughly estimated unofficially that the increased charges will amount to some £759,000 per annum, equal to an increase of £'1 a week to 15,000 employees. At tho start it is probable that this extra demand on the finances of the railways will have to be met by a percentage increase in charges ; 15 per cent, has been suggested in some quarters. It is unlikely, however, that this method will be permanent. A complete revision of the railway tariir has oeen asked for. and it will probably be decided upon, but it involves political as well as administrative issues and will require very Uhorongh enquiry extending possibly over several months. In undertaking this work the Government may think it advisable to call in outside men of experience in commerce, and to take evidence from representative bodies. If anomalies which have arisen since the last tariff revision are to be corrected the work cannot be rushed. Order by name "Nazol." Refuse substitutes. Nothing like "Nazol" for routing a cold quickly. "J
