At the same meeing, an appKcsion was made for a license at Matamata, but, there beinj then no license vacant, tho applicant sought, and secured, an adjournment of this application for one month. This building is inside tho brick area, and. as it has not been constructed in brick, it has now, under asrreement with the M&tamata Town Board, to be moved outside the brick area. Counsel contended "that he was relying upon a statutory provis'on, the drafting of which had been specially referred to a prominent Prohibition leader and a solicitor. This amendment of tho Act was eo framed that it permitted a licensing committee to supplant a license dropped ot one end cf a licensing district to another part, irrespective of distanco and the party responsible for tho framing of tho Statute thould be the last to complain of it- cffect. A petition was presented, supported by all tlio residents of South Y/cstland, together with a numbor of tourists who recently visited the Waiho Glacier.
