B. H. Gardinar. The chairman moved that a letter of condolence- be forwarded to the widow and family of the late Mr Daniel Bamford, and also to the widow of the late- Mr Jits. E. Davenport. The motion was carried in silence, members standing. It was resolved to strike a general rate of id in tho £ in the Port Levy Riding, and a general rato of Id in the Port Victoria Riding. The Hamilton Borough Council forwarded a circular urging the Government to remove the duty on cement, and asked tha Council to support it. The Manawatu County Council wrote suggesting that more drastic po««9 be eiven to Magistrates in dealing with motorists_ convicted -of speeding and dangerous driving. The suggestions were approved. Stokes, H. Tallott, A. Mcintosh, W. Stalker, and E. W. Cooper. It was resolved to forward a letter of sympathy to Cr. H. Garrett in his illness. Mr I). The application of Messrs Read, Keep, and Cook for permission to plough roads to destroy gorse was granted. It W33 decided io co-operate with t'i)o Department of Industries and Commerce in tho matter of applications for cement for essential works. The application of tho Eyrra County Council for permission to issue permits for cutting willows in the main drain was not granted. The clerk was authorised to procure a few bags of wheat for bird poisoning. A circular letter from the Manawatu County Council regarding motor traffio wae received. Tho Hamilton Borough Council's request for co-operation in urging upon tho Government tho removal of the duty ou Ejnglis'h cement, was received. A petition was received from a number of ratepayers in Chinnery'a load, Woodend, acting the Council to. put the road in repair. It was resolved that if the • petitioners repaired the'road the (Council would give a, grant towards tho cost. On the motion of Cr. Stalker, seconded by Cr. Tallott, it v/aa c&cided to etriko a general rate of fid :'n the £ in the Rangiora Riding, and fd in the £ in the- Cust Riding. It was resolved to give Sid per dozen for small birds' heads and 2d per dozen for egg 3. The treasurar submitted the- annual bal-ance-sheet, duly audited. The general account showed receipts £4112 8s Bd, and the expenditure £2369 13s 9d, the balance being transferred to the Rangiora Riding, account !£1345 2s 3d) and the Cust Riding account f£397 12a 2d). The receipts of the Rangiora Riding account were £2455 17s 3d,. and the :xpenditure £300-1 18s Id. leaving a Oebit balance of £549 0s lOd. For the Cu.?t Riding the receipts were £1135 Zs 2d, and the expenditure £523 143 sd. leaving ft- credit balance of £Gll 8s 9d. The electricity trading account was in credit £145 5s 3d; ar.d + he construction account in debit £1043-13s lid. The public debt was shown to bi .CG232 lap 9d. Tha balance-sheet was adopted, and instruction was given to havo it printed and circulated amongst tho ratepayers. The receipts for the month were stated to he £102 17s lOd, and the bank debit balance £1653 5s 3d. Accoiints for £533 were passed for payment.
