(Before Mr "W. B. McKean, S.M.) John "William Tonks (Mr Kennedy) pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing- 20 sacxs, valuad at £2 Is Sd, the property of Bofcert : Charles Maidens. Accused was oonvuW and fined £5, in default 21 days' imprisonment Joaep-h Daniel Doyne pleaded not guilty to a charge of using l obscene language. A fine of £2 was imposed, in default two weeks' imprisonment. On a further charge of drunkenness accused was convicted and fined 10a. , F. S pratt was fined 2s o-ri each charg® for failing to send two of his children ,to fchool. Reserved judgment was given in the oasa in which D. C. D. Thomas, of WesWf.eld, was charged with failing to clear Californian thistles off his property. During the healing of the case evidonce went to ehow that Thomas had altered the boundaries of property, which was in a riverbed, with th* view of making 1 the Agricultural Depart men ' responsible for th? of a portion ctho riverbed. The Magistrate held that dfendant was owner of tho soil of the be' l o the river up to tho middle line and fino him £2 and costs.
