NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. A meeting oi the Council of tho New land Amat.ur Swimming Association was hold last night. Presents-Messrs AY. E. D. Bishop (chairman), B. o'2>oiil (Wellington), F. C. Coulter (Jlanswatu), and H. HcD. Vincent (Hawke's Bay). Tho Reinstatement Committee's recommendation that F. R. "Wheeley be reinstated was adopted. Tho "Wellington Centre repudiated a portion of tho claim for expenses in connexion •v : th tho Walrond t-ur through the North Island. After a lengthy discussion i! was re'oived to ask tho Wellington and South Auck'nnd Centres to contributes £!0 Gs 2d and £-1, respectively, towards tho- expenses of this tour. The correspondence received with regard to tho Olympic Fund disclosed that there was little support being given in this matter. 1

Jlr Kich considered that the Council should nominate swimmers to compcte at the Olympic Games, and then Eei about to raise the necessary money for the competitors' expenses.

Mr O'Neill said that the body to take that action was the Canterbury Association, and that hotly had t«m«l the proposal down. He was against the Council devolving into a Canterbury Centre. The Council should set itself in a position to finnncn any swimming representatives chosen from New Zealand for the Olympic contests. Mr Benson said ho won 1 .! onpose the paying of the amount by the Council unless there was a e'ear understanding that no portion of the fund would go towards paying Mr Wa'rond's expenses.

An amendment that £29 bs voted, provided none of this money was used in paying Mr "Walrond's expenses, was carried.
