a ENGLAND "BOXING MAD." LONDON, July 3. England i-3 boxing mad. Promoters are seeking to brinj Dempcey io London, ,ind are outbidding tho £'10,OCO offer of Tex Rickard for a match in Now York. Mr C. B. Cochran, a well-known theatrical manager, is offering £25,000 to tho winner of tho fight on September 2nd between Beckett ar.d Carpentier for a match with Dempeey on the basis of GO per cent-, to the winner and 40 per cent, to the loser. Another London promoter, Sir Callaghan, offers £35,000, and he has rJready secured a building which will se?.t 22,000. _ ASHBURTON SPORTS CLUB. At a meeting of th? committee of tho Ashburton Sports Club, it was decided to take ste7>3 towards affiliation with the New Zealand Boxing Council. Tho first tournament was fi-ed for August 28th, and it was decided that tho "knock out" be disoouTaged. It was decided to ask Mr T. E. Robson (Ohrif.tchurch) to act- 33 referee, fai'ini; him JJt W. J. Moir (Christchurchl. Messrs E. F. J. Grigg- and J. E. Simpson were appointed judges.
