Mr Amery stated that the Government S Trado Commissioners were mvostigaj openings in the mandate ten > and added that ho understood terms of the mandate for the or i under the Dominions cr e being discussed on tl'o basis of equality of trado for all nations. On tho third readme of the r,imn -® Bill the Independent Liberals denounced the application of preference fo the mandate territories. Mr Aten Chamberlain 'aid nothing in tho Bill committed the Hon«e to Imperial in the mandate territories. There was no intention of doing anvthing inconsistent with the mandates. The Bill merely emnowered tho Government to apnlv preference bv which conj'l be rejct"d by f»tW Home. -as no intention of securing a selfish advantage or aetinT eon+rorv to the spirit or ! the Lenm'.e of Nations. - reie-tion of tho B-ll was moved on tho pTound that Imperial preference was ohiection°hle, but was defoatod by 219 votes to 48.
