• RATEPAYERS FAVOUR PURCHASE BY CITY. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TEtECRAM.) AUCKLAND, June 11. A conference between the Tramway Company and the union, in connexion with whoso demands notice of intention to strike has been given, did not result in an agreement. j It wus adjourned until after today's poll of the ratepayers on the proposal that the City Council should purchase the tramways. The poll resulted:— For purchase ... ... 2265 Against purchaso ... 593 Little interest was shown in the matter, only about twenty per cont. of the ratepayers exercising their votes.
