There has been a sudden rocrudescenoo of influenza. There have been 13 deaths and 196 new cases in tho past 24 hours, and 1443 cases are undor treatment at the hospitals. West Australia hag been declared infected. LETHAItGIC ENCEPHALITIS. (PEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, June 10. The new diseaso, lethargic enoephalitis. was referred to by the Minister of Public Health to-day. "This disease," said Mr Russell, "is clearly a jmrt of the aftermath of the influenza epidemic. Every ense is now being carefully watched by the Department. lam glad to be able to state that infectivity of the disease is low, but at the same time tho disease is a serious onej as it practically means laying tho patient aside foi at least six months. The disease bears some resomblnnce to phases of cerebrospinal meningitis, but now that it has been definitely diagnosed, tho health officers are reporting on every case. As tho disease has been made reportable, I should not be surprised if the hnmodinte effort will be to show more (jases existing than we were previously aware of Thnt mny give tho impression that the disease is Rereading, whereas it will really bo tho effect of ordering nil cases to be at otk-o reported to tho "Department, which of course enables tho health officers to see that every precaution is taken against its spread."
