PROJECTED ANTARCTIC
EXPEDITION
In July of last your a cablegram from Cape Town announced that Professor E. J. Goddard. of the Stellentosch University, proposed leading a South. African, expedition to the Antarctic after the war, to undertako the exploration of some 25,000 mi las of coristli'ic and to carry out other investigations. l>r. J. Allan Thomson, of the Dominion Museum, has received n letter from the professor to the effect that arrangements for the expedition liavo now been made, nnd that, all being well, two ships will sail from Cape Town in December, 1920. An extensive occanographical survey will be made between Africa and the Antarctic, and two years will be spent in the regions botwcea Enderby Irand and Coats Land. As. ai zoologist, Professor' Goddard is anxious to make the expedition mainly scicntific, and has consented to hand over the braehiopoda to Dr. Thomson, who handled those collected during the Mawson expedition, and is one of the four recognised authorities on the subject, of brachiopods. for examination and classification. Tne expedition will probably reach Australia early in 1921. Professor Goddard, an Australian, held the McLeay Fellowship in Sydney in 1910, later accepting his present position in j tho South African' University.
