Daniels, Secretary of tho United States Navy, at a luncheon at the Savoy Hotel, said that America's day of isolation was over. The war had resulted in a new horizon and .a new map. When America entered the war, ehe assumed new responsibilities for world peace 'and world conditions from which she could not escape if she would, and from which she would not if she could.

Lord Fisher said the British Navy dominated not domineered the world. When he first went to the Admiralty he was asked what his politics were, and lie replied, "I have none." He voted consistently with both sides and supported the party which gave the most money to the Navy. He added: "You can play the fool with anything else and probably ruin the country, but you cannot play the f 00l- with the Navy. The greatest Englishman who every lived was Washington, because ho taught us how to rule the colonies. But for "Washington, America to-day might have been another Irelaud."

PAY AND PENSIONS INCREASED. (Received May 11th, 5.5 p.m.) " LONDON. May 9. Tiro Admiralty has increased the pay and pensions of petty officers, noncoms. and men of tho Royal Navy nnd Royal Marines, bringing tho pay up to the Australian Navy standard. The increases will cost £2,839,000 annually. The total cost of the Navy is at present £5,447,000 annually, but will eventually be £6,148,000.
