LOSS OF ARYAN.

PARTICULARS OF CREW AND CARGO. ONE BOAT STILL MISSING. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, December 30. The ship Aryan, which was burned at sea, was loaded with 1400 casks of pelts and tallow, 5000 bales of flax (valued at £65,450), 670 cases of preserved meats (valued at £2630), and 229 sacks of kauri gum (valued at £525). The hemp was shipped by A. S. Paterson and Co., Levin and Co., and by the Auckland firm of J. Burns and do., Ltd. The shippers of the pelts and tallow were W. and R. Fletcher and Co., Ltd. (Auckland), Roche and Sons, and L. S. Maxwell and Co. The preserved meats were shipped by W. and R. Fletcher and Co., Ltd. The kauri gum was shipped by Maxwell and Co. Tho cargo came from Oamaru, Timaru, Wanganui, Napier, Gisborne, Auckland,' Lyttelton, and Wellington. The(?crew of the vessel, when she left Wellington, consisted of 22 persons, most of whom are foreigners from Northern Europe, as follows: — Captain—H. Larsen. First Mate—Charles Graham. Boatswain—P. Ryan. Carpenter—A. Danielson. A.B.'s—Harold Trovik, John Lindel, J. Jensen, H. Stiffensen, H. Ludvigsen, Henry Dill, J. Meisnersen, J. A. Bundik, T. Tecdorson, G. Ljung, H. Silverleaf, Emil Andersen, James Elo, Jack Wilson. Ordinary Seamen —F. M. Mills, S. M. Barraud. Cook—Charles Vandersluys. . Stewardess —Mrs F. L. Vandersluys. The official list of the crew included Sergeant-Major Vandersluys, his wife, Mr Knowles (of Taranaki), and Mr Barraud (of the local office of Levin and Co.), who signed on the articles in order to make the trip.

The owner of the Aryan is Mr L. A. Pederson, of San Francisco. The insur*ances are not known. This was the vessel's first visit to New Zealand. She was one of the largest American sailing ships which had yet visited this port.

THE SURVIVORS. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, December 30. The following additional particulars regarding the Aryan are supplied by the secretary of the General Post Office: The names of those who landed at Kaingaroa are: Hjalmar Larsen (master), Patrick Ryan (boatswain), J. Jensen, Henry Stiffensen, Hjalmar Ludvigsen, John Meisnersenj Oustav Ljung, Henry Silverleaf, Emil Andersen, Frank Montague Mills, Charles Vandersluys, F. L. Vandersluys (female). All are quartered at Kaingaroa Station. The first mate's boat has not yet been picked up. The names of the missing are: C. Graham (first njate), Henry Dill, Sidney Mowbray Barraud, James Elo, Jack "Wilson, 'A. Danielson, Harold Trovik, and J. F. Lindel. The boat was last spoken on the evening of December 34th, when it was instructed to steer a course for the Chathams. It has provisions and instruments. At 5 p.m. yesterday the captain was still hopeful, and said that if the boat missed the island it would set north, and should be somewhere west of the Chathams,. but during the night a strong westerly gale was blowing locally, and the worst is feared. The fire was first discovered in the flax cargo between decks at 2 a.m. on December 24tli (ship's time). The ship was abandoned at 11.30 a.m., in. approximately, latitude 45deg. south -longitude 171.10deg. west.
