Norton, J.l'.'e, presided at the iiyttelton Magistrate'a Court yesterday afternoon, when Patrick O'Halloraa was charged with disorderly conduct whilst drank on tbo steamer Monowai on Thursday. The goods had been lying about tho ship's hold, and he had simply taken them. Senior-Sergeant Jackson stated that tho man had been caught coming off No. 7 wharf /with the stolen goods concealed beneath hia shirt. The Bench, in deciding to convict, romnricad that pillaging of ship's' cargo was too eerioraa an offence to be regarded lightly. It' was regrettable that tho somewhat heavy penal* ties imposed .'ately in connexion with'previoits similar offences did not aeem to'.have tho desired offset of reducing cargo pilfering; Accused was fined £10 and costs, with the alternative of ono month's imprisonment, THE PICTURES. An interesting programme, including a clever Chaplin comedy, "Charlie's Vacation," was presented last evening at the Lyttelton Harbour Light Picture Theatre.' 33m pro* ( gramme will be completely changed this afternoon, -when Emily Stevens will appear in a Metro five-act' play,' '■'Daybreak," which, is considered her beet effort.
