ASHBUIITON. At a meeting of the Aahburton Eorough" Council, held oa Monday night, the Mayor (Mr Jt. A letter was read from the Minister of Internal Affairs stating that each local body w<yj)d be entitled to tuake its own arrangements in respect to the form the peace celebrations shou.d take. It was decided to procure sufficient distilled tnr to repair the asphalt portion of Ea*t street, and aUo to prooeed with repiira to flix miles of afiphftlt paths. The Mayor was authorised to co-eperate with the chairman of the County Council and Hospital Board in publicly thanking all those who had given voluntary assistance in connexion with the influenza epidemic. The Eiccarlon Borough Council met on Monday night. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. Brown), and Crs. J. Munninge, A. T. Steers, H. W. Wise, F. George, and H. GudteU. The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrot* expressing appreciation of the work of epidemic workers, and asked that accounts incurred by tho Council in connexion with the epidemic b& forwarded.—Received.
