j Unprecedented distress prevails. Trade and financo are at a complete standstill, and the peasants refuse to accept paper money. Rings formed by the proteges of the late Government possess largo stocks of provisions, and' unless these are requisitioned or supplies arrive soon, tho amelioration of conditions will be impossible. The general opinion is that owing to the chaos it is doubtful whether the Turks are capable of reorganising the country without aid..
