' It is officially stated that the British Food' Controller has sanctioned the' purchase of Australian surplus batter andcheese,, WIRELESS FROM BRITAIN. (Received September 23rd, 12.20 a.pi.) SYDNEY, September 22. The first direct wireless from Britain lias been received. It came from Mr Hughes, who in the message appeals for reinforcements. The Montreal correspondent of the London "Daily Telegraph" writes:—A twanaagn from Brockville states that Charles Cetewayo, an elderly mining engineer, who claimed to be the son of ex-King Cetewayo, of Zululand, and a protege of Queen Victoria, died there, after being a fortnight in hospital with an incurable disease. He was wel] read, widely travelled, and claimed service ; n the South African war; he was wounded, received a pension.
