SPORTING.

RACING.AND TROTTING NOTES.

(BT "Looxbb-ON.")

Owing to the congested state of the weighing paddock during weighing in and out operations in the past, tho committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club have decided to strictly enforce the trustees' regulation that no person is allowed "into the weighing-room or paddock enclosure unless he is the owner of a horse engaged in tho race actually m progress, and this regulation applies to trainers with regard to the paddocK enclosure.. Though yesterday was an off morning at Kicjarton, a number of trainers took advantage of the glorious weather to school their horses. Dardanelles, who was the first out, covered a round of the country at a solid pace, and gave a satisfactory exhibition. Coalition and Crib started off at the sod wall and covered a round and a half of the big fences at racing pace. Coalition appeared to hold Crib for pace over the first part, but Crib out jumped him. Both finished well. Master Strowan, by himself, was given a round over the fences at a solid pace, and acquitted himself in his usual faultless manner. Sleight-of-Hand, Sir Solo, and Kanri King finished together at the end of a burst at top over two flights of hurdles. All three fenced perfectly.

Reformation was schooled over the pony hurdles, and flew them in creat style.

Stone Ginger raced over a circuit of the country iu the fastest time recorded for some days. He is in great heart.

Master Boris did not appear' to find any difficulty in beating Vasconia over two flights of hurdles up the back. Gang Awa made the pace too hot for Sir h'ishor, who is sore, in a school over four flights of hurdles. Gang Awa,'who galloped and fenced well, appeal's to make a noise.

A lot of strong work was accomplished by horses engaged in tho various flat races, but with the exception of Fleetliain and Kiltess, who were tried out over six furlongs and finished in lmin 18 3-sth sec, the work was not severe.

The fina] payments received last evening for the Grand National Hurdle Race reduced the field for that event to 11. Don Francisco had previously been withdrawn, and Naupata, Crown Pearl, and Jeannot had their engagements discontinued. There are now 12 horses engaged in the Grand National Steeplechase. Moddite, Styrax, and Sylva being withdrawn, while for the Winter Cup the final payments been made for 24 horses, those that have gone out being Miss do Val Brambletye Detroit, Retard, and Point Blank. The acceptances • recoived for the other events give promiso of very fair fields, and the racing at Riccarton on Thursday should be of a high standard. s ;

Acceptances for the concluding day of the Metropolitan August Meeting -close on Thursday at noon.

The Addington training track yesterday was again too heavy for any work of importance to bo done. A large num. ber of horses put in appearance, but had to be contoat with doing half to three-quarter pace.

J. Wright gave Electrocute several rounds at a sound pace. The Electioneer trotter did what was asked of him m a ploasing manner.

Red Bell (J. McLennan) and Koraki (T. G. Fox) were companions in a strong work out over two miles, finishing together.

Wild Cherry, with the hopples on, paced about a mile and a half, showing a good turn of speed.

The southern-trained trotter, El Carbine, looking in capital fettle, went a mile with a pacemaker. He showed a fine turn of speed in patches, but went to A break more than once.

Peter acted well while trotting two miles. Red Heather, her stable mate, was restricted to slow work.

Silvor Quick did sprinting exercise in saddle, displaying plenty of dash. Cora Dillon and Capriccio, other members of J. McDermott's team, were only jogged.

D. Nyhan, the Hutt trainer, was on the course in the morning with Mahinga and Prince Akwood. Later in the day both had the straps on, and paced freely, showing signs of having done plenty of work.

Colenut covered the best part of two miles in harness. The son of ' Tving Cole has wintered well, judging by the manner in which he paced.

Sunrise worked in saddle at threequarter pace, giving only a moderate display.

Young Tohu, driven by fas owner, W. Baker, was allotted strong three-quar-ter work without the gear. He looks in nice condition, and was very anxious to go fast.

Others to do, useful exercise were Peter McMillan, Miss Audrey, Truganini, Gipsy King, Agnes Chief, Our Chum, Mushroom, Dillon Eddy, Erleen, Frank Tracey, Louie Drift, and Rorke's Drift. Author Dillon is slightly amiss, and a doubtful starter at the meeting. The following horses have arrived to take part in the meeting, and are quartered at the Star Hotel stables:— Stanley's Child. Malice, Legacy, Dunspey, Locanda Dillon, Lord Minto, and Nora Creina. F. G. Harris, private trainer to Mr J.
