MARRIED MEN FOR CAMP.

CLASS B DRAFT LEAVES > /

Four years of war have resulted in

the calling up for active service of married men with children, and the first of these from Christchurch and North Canterbury, Class B men Cthose with one child) called up in the April ballot, were despatched to camp last evening to form part of the 45th Reinforcements. One Hundred and ninetyfive men were posted to tne Ciiristchurch draft, but many secured an extension of leave at tne last moment, and the number who paraded was 163. Of these 22 were volunteers, mostly lads of ID and 20 years of age, ana all but a small percentage of the remainder comprised married men. On the other hand, the North Canterbury draft, which numbered 24 out of 25 caliea up, was mainly composed of First Division reservists. Neither relatives nor the general public were admitted to tho King Edward Barracks, where tne men paraded at 3 p.m. They looked an excellent draft physically, and whatever their feelings were inwardly they showed outwardly tho cheeriest of spirits and humour. They looked much older in appearance than First Division drafts, and this point was brought home by Colonel Chaffey addressing them as men instead of boys, as has been his practice in the past. Outside the street was crowded, mainly with women. Farewell speeches were made by the Mayor ,Mr H. Holland) and Colonel Chaffey, an-J then, headed by the Boys' High School Drum and Fife Band, the drafts] marched to the railway station, being an unusually large number of spectators. A pathetic featuro of the procession was the number of men carrying their children—for the last ' time for months. Following are the I members of the drafts:
