PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr F. M. Collins is progressing favourably after his recent serious operation. Mr Harvey Farnall has been appointed chief librarian at the Invercargill Athenaeum. He has been assistant librarian in the Public Library at Auckland for the past 23 years. Advice has been received by Mrs GSeaton, Kir wee, that her brother, Private Albert James McLaughlin, of Dunsandel, was killed in action in France on July 23rd. He left with the 11th Reinforcements. Corporal H. J. Mcßeath (wounded second time) is the third son of Mr D. Mcßeath, of Ivimberley. He left with the sth Reinforcements and landed on Gallipoli on August 6th, 1915, and was there until the evacuation. From ther© he went to France, and was wounded on July 3rd, 1916. On recovery he returned to France, and was in the trenches up till July 21st 1918, when he was again wounded in tne left thigh and hand. A younger brother who left with him in the oth Reinforcements contracted appendicitis and was invalided home. Another brother left with the 16th Reinforcements, and is still fighting in France. The eldest brother (married) left with the 40th Reinforcements. Word has been received in Dunedin that Captain Eardley Fenwick, who left his medical practice in India to go to the front in France, has been promoted to major, his promotion to date back from November. Major Fenwick, who has served'a long period on active service. is at present stationed at Ccdford, and returned soldiers speak very highly of his ability and painstaking care. Major Fenwick is a native of Dunedin, and is the son of Mr George Fenwick, managing director of the Otago Daily Times and Witnoss Company. An elder son, Captain George Fenwick, volunteered from Auckland, and has also had a lengthy period of service in Egypt, Franco, and England.
