WAIJMAIIU. The monthly meeting of tho Waimairi County Council was held yesterday aiternoou, Mr S. A. Stuples being in the chair. 'iho engineer's report, which was adopted, stated that ho hud had tho engine 01 the weed cutler ropa.red, but it had only been running half an hour when it broke again in the same place. The engineer was now having the cam-shaft built a liitlo thicker, in the hopo that it would stand up to the work. Tue balunce of the report dealt with various repairs to the roads - and general matters of maintenance. The Kiccarton Borough Council forwarded a resolution, "That tins Council, being under the notice of the Waimairi County Council, the advisability of having tho whole of the liiccarton avenue and footpath adjacent to the Hospital, up to th« Morgue gate, asphalted." It was decided to adhere to tho previous TCBolution, viz., that the Council would do the work provided tho Hospital Board paid for it. The Belfast Domain Committee asked for a donation towards the upkeop of tho Domain. It was decided to ask for a copy cf the committee's balance-sheet. The Navy League wiote, asking "for a donation to tho Naval Prisoners of War Fund. It was decided to vote £10 10s, and that all donations to other patriotic objects should fn futuro be referred to the Finance Committee. Tho solicitors acting for Mr. W. M. Reynolds claimed a sum of £154 from the Council as compensation for injuries which Mr Reynolds had received owing to the alleged negligence of the Council's employees. It was decided to refer the matter to the Council's solicitors, • ... Mr W. Messervy applied for the position of poundkeeper. The application was inferred to the Pound Committee. Th« Canterbury Publio_ Library Committee requested the Council to assist with donations for tho formation of a Technical section. —Received. A deputation, consisting of Messrs J., J. Dougall and G. Scarff pointed out to the workmen that the pipes were being laid too high. , , A ■The Publio Works Department agreed to the exemption of Vogel street from the provisions of Section 117 of the Publio Works Act, but stated it' could not exempt Smith ■ street unless certain conditions wero carried out—Received. . \ , , The Waitomo County Council forwarded resolutions regarding representation of Native ratepayers on county councils, and a suggestion lhat two ©lectors' rolls bo compiled for county elections, one for European and one for Native electors, etc. Received. The District Health Officer wrote with regard to the loan for sewerage extension at ' Cashmere, stating that _he had made a recommendation to the Minister under Section 69 of tho Public Health Act, which had gone forward to tho Minister for approval, on receipt of which he would communicate further.—Received. It was decided to make a grant of £5 to the Bromley School Committee for agricultural purposes. The Woolston Borough Council wrote draw- ' ing attention to pipes in a drain across the entrance to the railway station, Woolston, which were damaging the footpath, having" collapsed in places. The matter wbb referred to the member tor the district. The county clerk reported that a number of summonses had been issued for 1916-17 rales, and with the exception of three cases, which were down for hearing on the 25th instant, all had been paid.
