SHIPPING NOTES. The Mararoa had " a rough -trip from Wellington on Tuesday night, the weather b6ing nearly as stormy as on her two previous 'voyages. She - left ~ "Wellington at 8.10 p.m., arriving-here at 8.45. &.m. yesterday. The Corinna did not sail yesterday as anticipated, owing to the rainy weather delaying her loading operations. Sho should be in readiness to sail to-day. The Calm was expected to leave Dunedia last evening for Timaru and Lyttelton with general merchandise. She will load here for Wellington and Wanganui. The Canopus is now overdue at Lyttelton. She is bringing coal from Westport. .Now that the weather has moderated she should put in an early appearance. The Orepuki will probably bo despatched from Giwymcrath to-day with cargo for this pbrt. She is 'scheduled to depart on Monday on a return voyage to Greymcmth. The Kini, after having been considerably delayed- by rough weather on the West Coast, is'expected to reach port to-day. She ta bringing coal and timber to discharge here. The Monowai.is to leave Wellington on Saturday night'for the South, arriving here on Sunday and sailing the following day for Dunedin, whither sho will sail on Tuesday for Auckland, via the usual ports. The Wimmera Commission is to commence its sittings in Auckland on 31st inst. Mr E. _C. Cutten, S.M., has been appointed chairman of the Commission. Cable advice has been received of the arrival of the barque Antiope at San Francisco on the 16th inst. from Auckland, after a fast passage of 55 days. After discharge the Antiope will load cargo for New Zealand. The Union Company has received advice of the 'arrival of the Dartfo<-d at San Francisco on the 17th inst. from. Port Chalmers. Tho Dattford' which has been in turn sailer, training-ship, and hulk, was refitted for the sea this year at Port Chalmers, which she left on April 27th, taking 80 days to do tho voyage. She will load at San Francisco for New Zealand.. ■

SHIPS FOE AUSTRALIA,

Uncertainty: exists as to when the firat of tho fleet of 14 wooden ships, ordered bv The Commonwealth Government in America will roach Australia (says tho Sydney Daily Telegraph"). At least three should have, delivered cargoes in Australia by this time, but, according to cabled-information received by the • Minister - controlling shipping (Mr Poynton), there > have been unlooked-for delavs. The Cathana, the first ve eel to be launched, was loaded on July 9th, but official acceptance has been de ayed for a few days. The Culbaxra is due for delivery this month; also the Ballato, whose boilers have already been delivered.' The Bundaira will not be ready until the end of September. The Cballambra, which was launched on Jvly 4th, lias had to be returned to dock, es the port shaft opening has had to be re-bored, and the date of her delivery cannot be forecasted. Tho only other ooncrauig which information is available wth» Cooloha, which was launched on July 9th. Mr Poynton is aissatisfied with the rate of progress being made, and ho is unaba to say when the contracts will bo completed.
