ALLOCATION OF PROFITS
In reference to the promise made by the Imperial Government that any surplus from the sale of commandeered wool inLondon above tbe price paid for it would be returned to New Zealand farmers, Mr E. Newman. M.P. for Rangitikei, has telegraphed to the Hon. D. Buddo, M.P., as follows: "Imperial commandeered wool. if you apprpve of proposal that our . portion of surolus from sales in England should be aevoted to the benefit of dependants of sailors of the Royal Navy and merchant service lost during t!.e war I hope you will support proposal and £pt your local county councils, farmers' unions, and Press to, do so also." Mr Buddo replied aB follows: —"Be surplus from wool sales in London. Personally 1 believe sheep-farmers in low country in Canterbury will hparttiy support the proposal to devote surplus payments for .wool to assist dependants of > sailors lost during war, but twothirds of Canterbury iB suffering from the severest snow-storm in the history of the province, which is bound to be disastrous to many sheep-owners, and no one can foretell what their financial position may be at shearing time. I will be pleased, however, to consult representative farmers and councils regarding this patriotic proposal."
