Private advice lias teen rcceivod by Mrs A. Allan. Rockvale, Waikari, that her son, Captain J. A. M. (Jack) Allan, R.F.C., was killed as a result of an aerial accident on May 20th. Ho had been on active service for nearly three years, and liadj recently been promoted to tho rank of captain. Ho had been severely grounded in action when well -within the German lines, but managed to regain his own lines. For the past three months he had been in charge of th© air station on the Isle of Thanet. Pie proved himself an able and intrepid airman. His brother, A. T. Allan, last week qualified at Sockburn for tho air scrvice. Mr and Mrs J. Hoskin, Springston South, have received advice that their son, Private Harold ' Hoskin, was fussed and admitted to hospital in ranco between April 30th and May 4th. Private Hoskin left with tlio ,19th Reinforcement's. Ho enlisted when ho was nineteen, and has spent two birthdays in France. Before enlisting, ho was engagod as ranger for the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, arid was uleo a keen member of the local football team and a prominent figure in all local athletic events. Private Frank Warn, husband of Mrs Warn, of I/owor Riccarton, died of wounds on April 26th, in France. Ho left -with the 29th Reinforcements. Ha had resided in New Zealand for five years. He was born at Groat Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, and was So years of ago. Mr F. L. Adams, of Simeon streot, Addington, has received nows of tho death of his son, Air Mechanic F. L. Adams, a prisoner of war in Turkey. Air Mechanic F. L. Adams was born in Sydenham twenty-five years ago, andi was educated at the Sydenham, West) G'hristchurch District High, and Technical Schools. On leaving school ho served his time as a carpenter andi joiner with Messrq Love and Gasson, and was employed by the N.Z. Railways, Maintenance Department, till he loft for Australia to study architecture, having taken un a course with the I.C.S. Being in Sydney when war was declared, ho enlisted with the Australian Forces, and was attached to the Flvincr Corps. Ho served through the Mesopotamia campaign with General Townshejjd to the engagement at Ctesiphon, and was taken prisoner at the surrender of liut-el-Amara. His brother, E. L. Adams, is at present in France with the New Zealand Machine-gun Company. A double military funeral took place yesterday afternoon, when the remains of Gunner F. J. Nicholl and Private W. J. Will were laid to rest in the Linwood Cemetery. Both men died in the Christchurch Hospital, from where the funeral left. Tie body of Will was 1 taken to the Roman Catholic Cathedral in the morning, and aftor Mass, was taken back to tho Hospital. Nicholl having been an artillery man, and served on the permanent staff at Ripa Island, his body was conveyed to the cemetery on a gun-carriage, that of Will being taken on a motor hearse. Thero was a very largo attendance of returned, soldiers and friends, and a firing party of 24 from the local permanent artillery force did duty for both funerals. There was a large array of floral tributes in each case. The service in the case of Nicholl was conducted at- the graveside bv the Rev. C. A. Fraer, of Phillipstown, and the Rev. The body of Private Hurray, the third returned man to die at the Hospital this week, was sent to his former home in Otaki, on Tuesday night. Mrs J. Clarke, Hinds, has received advice that her brother, Private Georgo Browne, was wounded in the head about Mav 12th, and admitted to a hospital in Private Browne left with the 13th Reinforcements. Mrs David Thomas. Carter's terrace, Tinwald, has roeeived advice that her ison. Lieutenant J. Trevor Thomas, was slightly vrounded in France, and taken! .prisoner by the Germans.
