—— ♦ ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Canterbury School Committees' Association _states that tiio reBulls achieved during the r' ,!st been worth the strenuous efforts made. Delegates from all tho oiher School Co™ 11 1;;: teos' Associations in New Zsaland met during tho rear and a conference na held, and subsequently a delegation waited on tho T + h° fl t. to conference otw'districts. have boon convinced that united action £ necossary to bring about certain nccessary reforms, and tho committee, eincercly trusts "that, at an early date, a Dominion conference of delegates from School Committee will meet to organme a campaign bavin" for its object the betterment, and uplifting of our educational system. xte-rioTTing' briefly the work of the past year, tho committed considers that tho Association has earned the gratitude of all School Committees by fighting for, and eocxirmg, an increased incidental allowance, which allowance is eaid to be a "war period meaimTe of relicf" only but which it is hoped will become a permanent addition to the incomes of committees, since it has been amply proved that such an increase is absolutely essential to enable committees to perform th»ir duties with any degree of efficiency. Copies of tie Association's comprehensive and far-reaching' platform for the improvement of the educational system were sent to all School Committees to be xead at the recent meeting of householders and, almost without exception, tho clauses were approved. Tho report adds that if the general public can be awaiened I to a realisation of the pressing need of, such reform, there should bo euch an expression of public opinion as will compel Cabinet_ to | grant tho necessary money to remedy existing defects. !
