RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

I The Rangiora High School Board met last ■"lent. Present—Messrs R. Ball (chairman), C. W. Bell, It. Collie, J. Marshall, W. A. Banks, J. Stevenson, ±1. Boyd, and C. I. Jennings. It was resolved to send a letter of condolence to the widow and family of the late Mr J. Sansom, at on© time a member of the board. In consequence of the advance in the cost of commodities it was decided to increase the tariff for boarders at the hostels. The ilon. D. Buddo, M.P., wrote covering a from the Minister of Education, elating, in reply to the board's application for a grant to complete the brick portion of the school buildings, that he wa3 "enquiring into the matter with a view to seeing if the board's request could be acceded to. The Minister added that he intended to visit Rangiora and • inspect the school when a favourable opportunity occurred, Enquiry having been made by farmers for eeed potatoes from the school agricultural plots, tho disposal of produce from the plots was left to the Agricultural Committee. The chairmen reported, in connexion with the Building Committee's acceptance of Mes«rs Shankland and Taylor's fender of £381 for the erection of a sleeping shelter at the boys' hostel, that the plans had been sent to the Minister for approval, to enable the board to arrange for a loan. ' The principal (Mr J. E. Strachan) reported aijaverage attendance last term of 93 per cent. He suggested that a beautifying scheme should bo carried out on a plot in the school grounds no longer required for experimental purposes, .also that evening classes should be held during the middle term in, bookkeeping, shorthand,. and typing, provided not fewer than ten pupils were enrolled. The report was adopted. The receipts for the month were reported to be £230 17s 3d, the expnndi- | tnre £301 13s 2d, and the bank credit balance i £207 12s Bd. Accounts amounting to £142 18s 6d wero passed for payment.
