Constable Hodgson, of Waikouaiti, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant, and transferred to Christchurch. The Minister of Education will pass through Christchurch to-morrow, on his way to Dunodin. He returns north on Saturday. Mr Cuthbert East, of Timaru, was a passenger for Wellington by last night's ferry steamer. Mr W. J. Stoele, Tramway Inspector at Dunedin, has resigned after liftoen years' service, to take up work for tho Anglican Memorial Home for Boys at Dunedin. Lieut.-Commander Bryan Adams, son of Mr George Adams, Melbourne, and cousin of Dr. Adams, of Wellington, and of Lady Wilson, of Bulls, took part in the recent raid on Zcebrugge. Ho escaped unhurt. The Christchurch Drainage Board, at its meeting last night, passed a vote of sympathy with its engineer and secretary, Mr E. Cutlibort, in the loss ho recently sustained in the death of his wife. At Monday night's meeting of tho Otago Rugby Football Union, it was unanimously decided, to nominate Mr H. Harris, presidont of the Otago Union, for thb position of president of tho New Zealand Rugby Union. Two rccent arrivals from the war zone are Flight-Lieutenants Phfl Fowler and Maurice Buckloy, of the Royal Naval Air Service, who are on spo?ial furlough after sixteen months of active service in the Eastern Mediterranean. Flight-Lieutenant Fowler is a son of Mr Southey Fowlor, of Feilding, while Flight Lieutenant Buckley is a son of Mr F. H. Buckley, of Pusev, Fairlio. Mr Richard Crowe, secretary of the Auckland Education Board, who died suddenly on Monday, was formerly an inspector of schools in tho Auckland district. He was born in Tippcrary, Ireland, in 1858, educated at the national schools, and at Trinity College, Dublin. He afterwards engaged in teaching at Birmingham and Liverpool, and, arriving in Auckland in 1883. entered tho employ of tho Board of Education as assistant master at Grafton road. He was subsequently headmaster at Maketu, and in 1889 was appointed an inspector. The late Mr Crowe was an enthusiastic cricketer and footballer, and in his day represented the Auckland province against the English and Native football teams, as well as the Australian Eleven which visited Auckland in 1880. As a Freemason he held the r."ik of Past-Master of Lodge Remuora, E.C.
