FRUIT CULTIVATION.

The class receiving instruction from Mr W. J. Courtier in fruit cultivation met on Monday night. Specimens of apples were exhibited, and their virtues explained, and an address given on the planting of orchards and shelter belts. 1 COURT STAR OF CANTERBURY, A.O.F. A "meeting of Court Star of Canterbury, A.0.F., was held on Monday, Bro. W. Crawford, C.R., presiding. A motion of sympathy with Bro. W. Moor© in the death of hia wife was carried. It was decided to grant tho request of Court Queen of Canterbury for the uea of the hall. One member was initiated. OAK OF SYDENHAM LODGE. At thafortnightly meeting oi the U.A.O.D. Oak of Sydenham Lodge, No. 6, the Bards' report was received and sick pay passed tor payment. At the close of business the Lodge held a social evening. bond off greetings wore extended to I.G. Bro. T. Ryder, and , I'.D.P. Bro. .Jae. Watßon, who aro going into camp Musical items were given by Bros. I'hilpott, T. Ryder, Woods, Bearne, J. Watson, Edmond, and J. Betts. LOYAL PERSEVERANCE LODGE. At tha fortnightly moating of the Loyal Perseveranco Lodge, 1.0.0.i;'., M.U., Bro. Le Comto presided o\er a good attendance. Two sick certilicates weru recjivou a.iu sick pay to several members was passed lor payment. P.U. Bio. Jtlenloy, chaumun _ of the piano committee, submitted a copy of the mles recenily drawn up relative to tho i;i*no lund. Tho invitation of the Rechabitea to a friendly card match was reteried to the Board o£ Management.

LOYAL CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH LODGE.

A meeting of tho Loyal City of Christchurch Lodge, 1.0.0/ F., M.U., was _ held on Monday, Bro. C. J. Wood presiding. Sick pay was'iwraed to forty members. Notice was received that Bro. C. E. Faulkner bad been killed in action, making the eighth member to lose liis life in the present war. A communication wa3 received from the Grand Master and Board of Directors, recognising the strenuous work accomplished by Bro. H. E. l'lobbius on behalf of the soldier members.

METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.

On Monday- evening, at the Rugby street schoolroom, the members of the Methodist Sunday School Union were entertained at tea by St. Albans friends. There was a largo attendance, aTnd at the after meeting an' addrc-ss was given by Rev. A. T. Thompson, of St. Andrew's, on the importance of Sunday School work, and outlining a scheme for training teachers. Mr Hill, organiser of the Wellington Patriotic Carnival, appealed i for support in the production of a Children s Festival in Christchurch, for the same purpose. Voteß «f thanks were passed to the St. Albans friends for their hospitality. SUMNER SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A mcetins of the Sumner School Committee. was held test night. Present—Mr D. Lumrfden (chairman), Meedames Fountain Barber, W. G. Roberts, H. N. Buttle and Messrs C. Benjamin, G. Alexander, G. Newman, and W, J. Lawson. Mhq Jull, a member of the staff, tendered her resignation. It was resolved to acecpt tho same with deep regret, and placo on record the Committee's high appreciation of her services on the staff and amongst tho children generally during the paat six years. The Board of Education wrote stating that plan 3 were being prepnrod for additions to the present buildings. The socrctjry rejicrted that arrangements had been nade foi tho Grand Picture Co. to give a series of entertainments in aid of the grounds improvement fund. Tho Works Committee reported that it oould not recommend the t*»movol of the trees which it had been instructed to irei-ect. A good supply of fuel had been soured. The head teacher's report showed that tha roll number was 275.
