DRAINAGE BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

Tho monthly meeting of tho Christchurch Drainage Board was held last evening. Present—Messrs W. Hill (chairman), H. Holland J. W.Beanland, F. Storey, H.J. Otley, S. A. Staples, W. J. Walter, J. Down, and C. IXill.

Estimates for the current year wore presented, and rates in each of the sub-districts were suggested as follows;— Sewerage area 0-1G in tfio i, rural Christchurch l-64d in the £, rural Woolston 5-32 d in tho £, rural Brighton 3.64 d in the £, rural Sproydon 5-3-d in the £. rural' Avou 7-lGd in tlioi), rural Heathcote 3-lGd in the £, ruml Riccarton 11-64 din the £. Also that the reqqiurement.s in connexion with tho Rate Accoun (£•25,000 loan), be fixed at £2528; with No. 3 Uato Account (£27,500 loan) at £I30o7; and with No. 4 Bate Account (£19219fl 6d loan) at £I Tiio treasurer's report showed a credit balance of £677 2s Gd. . Tho Woolston Borough Council wpto asjeihg that the effluent discharged into the. river from tho works of Messrs Walter Hill and Co. should be inspected by tho Boards inspector. The Council pointed out that the matter had, been brought before it. 1 »y a written complaint. A report from the inspector stated that on May 20th tne effluent had been quite satisfactory, though on May 9th it had been very much discoloured. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Holland, that a reply be sent to tho Woolston Borough Council to tho effect that during the -piaeb month three inspections had been earned out "bv the Boatd's inspector, and that at present experiments were being carried out with a ■view to abating the nuisance. The Heathcote County Council wrote nskins that the residential area of Cashmere should be included in tho drainage schemo boins -prepared by the Boajd. It was decided that tho Board's solicitors be directed to draw up a short bill including Cashmere, etc., in the sowage area. The Shirley School Committee wrote assjn" that tho creeks in tho vicinity of the school should be made less insanitary by cleaning, shingling, etc.
