"Thero was great aerial activity on Thursday. Our aeroplanes tons of bombs on important railway centres, aerodromes, and billets. The fighting was intense in tlio early morning and evening. A French communique states:-— "There was a violent bombai'ament during the night in the region of Hailles. . .. "We repulsed an enemy raid m direction of Mcsnil-St. Georges, and took prisoners. One of our detachments penetrated the enemy lines at two points south of Canny sur Metz, and brought back prisoners. "Enemy aeroplanes crossed our lines and bombed several places behind the front. . "Some machines approached ±ans, where the alarm was given at 10.32, and 'All clear' at 11-2. Bombs were dropped on the outer suburbs. A Belgian communique states: — "German airmen bonded a Belgian hospital at killing ten patients and wounding 20." A German official report states: "An enemy monitor shelled Ostena, causing considerable civilian losses "Wo repulsed a strong English thrust near Beaumont Hamol. "Wo shot down 18 aeroplanes." LONDON, May 17. Sir Douglas Haig reports:— . "We repulsed raiders in the neighbourhood of Moyen, ; Neuville. and southward of Arras. '1 hero was great, reciprocal artillery activity during the night in the Pacut AVood sector, northward of Hinges Hill.
