REGULATIONS GOVERNING APPOINTMENTS.. The following amended regulations relating to appointments to tho Public Service aro gazetted: — I (a) Appointments to the professional division other than on promotion from the clerical or general divisions shall in tho first . n'.tico be to the first aubdvision of Class JE? in the second schedule to tho said Act. (i.) Appointments to tho clerical division may in tho first placo be to eucll subdivision of Class VIII. in the third schedule of'.tho said Act as tho Commissioner may determine: Provided that holders of university decrees, or of approved certificates from any university collego that the candidate has attained special knowledge in any ecientjfio subject, may be admitted in such subdivision of Claßsea i"' or E, or VIII. or VII., as tho Commissioner thinks fit, subject to the pro- . visions' of Section 40 of the said Act. And provided further that a member of the military branch of tho Defence Forces who ha» passed the entrance or senior examination may. be transferred to the. Civil, branch of that Department, 'and may bo admitted in such' class or «übdivision. as the . Commissioner thinks fit. No one. except he is an honourably discharged member of the'Force# as'defined in-the War. Pensions Act, 1916, and any amendment of that Act,; shall bo appointed to the clerical - division rinleas his age at the time of appointment is . not less than fifteen nor more than twenty-five years, and no one shall be appointed to tho|professional division unless his age is not less than seventeen years at tho time of appointment.
