RACING AND TROTTING NOTES. (BY "LOOKEB-ON.") Tho inside of tlio trial grass track at Riccarton was open for fast work on Saturday. It was oxceptionally fast, but the work accompHshod was not of a very exciting description. Adjutant, with a light weight up, was stmt a mile. He was picked up at the six furlong post by Brambletye, and tho pair ran home together in lmin 43sec. Gamecock was doing his utmost at tho end of four furlongs, run in 49sec, ' whilo Daytime was stretched right out to cover a furlong more in lmin 3 2-oth sec. Acceptances for tho Wanganui Jockey Club's Winter Meeting and OtakiMaori Racing Club's Winter Meeting are duo this evening. Furling had to do her best to hold a slight advantage that sho gained over Jingo at the start of a fivo furlong sprint. Her time was lmin 3 2-stii sec. The two-year-old imported colt, oy Marajax, was given his first sprint over half-a milo. Ho galloped like a green colt, and took 52 4-sth sec for the distance. Slogan, who is very backward, was of little use to Flcetham at tho business end of a gallop over six furlongs, which the latter ran in lmin 18 2-oth" soe. Spangle beat Matty very comfortably ! over the concluding stages of a sprint over five furlongs, run in lmin 3 2-sth see. Banian nnd Art finished together at the end of a nine furlong gallop, run j in 2min lsec. | Vascular and General retain were companions in a gallop over a mile. The 1 pain finished together in lmin 47sec. | Jeannot gave Bomb and All Pink ,a good beating over a milo in lmin 64sec. All Pink stayed on much better than Bomb, who was gone a long way from home. Tremena, who was picked up by Kaminohe at the fivo furlong peg, left seven furlongs behind in lmin 30sec, which « as a useful gallop. J. McCombe sprinted Pvjama and Bon Spec separately, over a few furlongs. Both movod freely., Starlike was sent home to her owner's station this week, and Hylans was sent down to E. Scouliar. After being ridden round the schooling ring in a vigorous manner by L. Hagerty, giving a fair showing, Kimbolton was raced over the pony hurdles, and jumped well. Ivilljov has been nominated for the big events at the Dunediii Winter Meeting, but slio is not doing much work, trotting oxercise only being asked of her. Silver and Black, who is showing signs of lameness, is being restricted to steady pacing. On Wednesday Private George Price was entertained by a number of Palm- 1 erston North residents in tho Duke i street Mounted Orderly Room. Mr S. | Jickoll presided in the absence of Mr H. R. Cooper. Several toasts were honoured, including that of the guest, j On behalf of those present, Mr J. il. : Bull presented Private Price with a : pair of field-glasses, referring at the j same time to his many excellent quali- ' ties. Musical items wore contributed ! during the evening, including a number of selections by the Awapuni orchestra. (Bt "Searchlight.") Acceptances for the South Wairarapa Trotting Club's Annual Meeting close on tho 23rd inst. Tamarisk, who was added to the list a few months ago, has been taken in ■ hand again. Tho son of AN ildwood j Junr. is to bo given plenty of steady : work during tho winter, and will be raced early in the spring. The Auckland trainer, C. Redshaw, is educating a fine two-year-old natural pacer, half-brother to that fine pacer Bronzo Patch, who always races without straps. It is reported from the North th.\t, two well-bred stallions recently arrived in Wellington from America. Ngaiora recently ran into a wire fence, and consequently has been sent to the paddock for a spell. Mr M. Kennington, the local oportsman, has not been enjoying the best 'if luck during the present month, as Ngaio, the dam of Little Kauri anil Ngaiora. was found dead in the paddock. At the time of her death she was in foal to the imported stallion Harold Dillon. Following this mishap his yearling, by O.Y.M. from Citation, got kicked badly and had to be destroyed. Mr G. Robinson has decided to ci v >" > ! bis pacing mare Becwood a spell- Sinco ■ entering J. An cx-Elth.mi resident, but now of Patea, drew a winning ticket in the Palmerston North art union. He was not fortunate enough to win the muchcoveted motor-ear, but lie won a racehorse, a prize which had been advertised as being worth £200. For. a prize cf such value, tho winner thought he could stand the expense of going to Palmerston to look after it, although he would be losing his wages—l6s per day—by doing so. He accordingly went to"Palmerston North'(says the Eltham "Argus"), and when - there the beat offer he could get for the steed was £10, and an attempt "wns made to charge him for grazing.
