BOWLING.

CHRISTCHUKCH CLUB. The annual meeting of tho Christchurch Bowling Club was held in the pavilion last evening, tho president, Mr E. E. Daniels, presiding over & good attendance. Tho annual report stated that the financial position was considered very satisfactory, but very great core ha-d to be exorcised in all matters of expenditure so as to ensure a credit balance. The thanks of members were duo to tho3e who subscribed to the green, improvement and loan redemption fund, especially to Messrs Macdougall, Maddison, and Clark for special subscriptions. The membership at the commencement of the year was 81, but was now 75, a decrease of six. The world »war was still claiming our young men, an effect that was being felt in aU sports. Some of the members were still on active service, and were being kept clear on tho books. Sevpral members had suffered bereavements, and tho club's sympathy was expressod with them. Early in the season' Mt Seager, who rendered yeoman service as green superintendent, and to whose energies tho condition ol the green due, found it necessary to ask to be relieved, of the responsibility of that position, and Mr A. V. B. Bishop had since acted in that capacity. The greenkeoper alao retired, and it was necessary to fill his place, and Mr T. F. G. Phillis was duly appointed. Owing to a difficulty in arranging competition 1 games wherein afternoon and evening players had to meet, a conference of representatives of -both classes of players was held in November last, and the whole position was thoroughly discussed, with the result that matters had since gone 'on successfully. Tho balance-sheet showed a credit of £55 l?a lid. In submitting the balance-shed the treasurer, filr W. Helliwell, said that it showed tho club's financial position to bo absolutely sound; the only debt was the mortgage debt on the security. The president moved the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, and, referring to tho satisfactory financial position, _ said it was largely duo to Mr Helliwell being able, willing, and competent to perform tho duties of treasurer. Owing to the calling up of the Second Division it was likely that there might be a further decrease in membership, and ho urged members to do what they could to secure new m« mbers.

Mr H. C. Ridley seconded the motion, which was agreed to after a brief discussion. •

Officers for the year were elected as follows: —President, Mr W. Helliwell; vice-presi-dents, Messrs W. M. Joynt and F. G. Hobbs; treasurer, Mr Geo. H. Cooper; secretary, Mr F. C. B.
