CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The Christchurch Presbytery mot yesterday. Present: Rev. A. D. Kirkland (Moderator), Revs. Dr. Erwin, John "ft . Hayward, A. T. Thompson, T. McDonald, J. S. Reid, A. Laisliley, E. W. "Walker, J. C. Paterson, W. T. Todd, J. Johnston, D. D. Rodger, "\V. H. Howes, J. H. Thomson, J. Dickson, N. McCaiium, J. Watt, F. Rule, and C. Murray (clerk), Messrs R. J. Corbeit, W. Nixon, J. E. Mitchell. James Reid, J. S. Tullock, J. P. W. Lec, '1 homas Sagar, W. Wills, and George Jackson. An apology was received from the Rev. John Paterson. A Visitation Committee, comprising tho Rers. A. T. Thompson, T. McDonald, and Mr J. P. W. Lee, was set up to report on the Papanui district. A resolution was carried in appreciation of the services of the Rev. Geo. Lindsay, who has resigned the Southbridge charge. Some discussion occurred on a request to appoint a minister to the Sefton charge. The district had been canvassed, and it was found that a stipend of only £170 could bo offered. It was decided to appoint a home mis- 1 sionary.
A collection was taken up in the room for the purposo of sending papers and magazines to soldiers at Trentham camp. A hearty and unanimous call to the Rev. G. K. Aitken, of Methven, signed by 61 communicant members of the congregation at Southbridge, was "*cceived. It was decided to sustain tho call and forward it to tho Ashburton Presbytery. The Rev. J. S.' Reid was appointed commissioner to support '<he call at the Ashburton Presbytery meeting.
The Riccarton branch of St. Andrew's Church wroto asking that the church bo constituted a separate charge. On tho motion of the Rev. A. T. Thompson, the application was received, and a commission, consisting of the Revs. Dr. Erwin, A. T. Thompson, (!. Murray, J. S. Tulloch, F. Rule, and Messrs J. Tennant, Mcintosh, and .7. P. "W. Lee was set up to.make the necessary investigations and report to tho next meeting of the Presbytery. Messrs T. D. Boag, J. Frame, W. Goss, J. Patterson, and J. I. Royds were elected a committee to the Presbyterian Social Service Association. Dr. Envin presented a report on St. Andrew's College, which was received.
The Rev. J. Paterson and Messrs J. I. Royds, J. G. Herdnimij and A. Henderson were qppointed to represent the Presbytery on the St. Andrew's College Board of Governors.
