RETURNED SOLDIERS.

ItE-ENLISTMENT DISCUSSED,

When the Minister of Defence was m Auckland recently lie was questioned as to the possibility of tho re-enlistment of returned soldiers as separate units. Sir James Allen's reply, as published in Auckland, has this passage: "It must bo understood that the reor"unisation of re-oniisted soldiers into separate units can be recognised only in JWtv Zealand, and until such tune as the units concerned arrive at tho oversea basf. The question of linal posting to the various lormations of the iNow Zealand division must, of necessity, be left to tho discretion of tho military authorities in the United Kingdom. jNo doubt men will, as far as possible, bo posted to their original units. If it is anticipated that large numbers of returned soldiers will bo forthcoming for this purpose, it will be necessary to arrange for them to bo recruited through the Director of Recruiting, and despatched to camp in bodies and at regular intervals, not in small numbers from time to time. This is necessary to piermit of organising units of returned soldiers as outlined." 1 On Monday this matter was brought tinder the notice of Mr D. Seymour, general secretary of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association. He remarked that the question had been under consideration by the executive for some time. It would be fully discussed at the Dominion Oonferenco of the N.Z.R.S.A. at Auckland, which will be opened ,on May 27th.
