ENGLAND'S PRIME MINISTER.

A NAPIER RESOLUTION.

(press association telegram.)

NAPIER,' May 4

A largo number of Napier business men. and several ladies, assembled at the Borough Council Chambers this afternoon as a result of tho calling of a meeting for tho purpose of passing some resolution of appreciation and approval of the actions of Mr Lloyd George, Prime Minister of England. • The Mayor explained that the object of the meeting was to pass a motion of support to the English Prime Minister, who was doing so much to direct the Empire in this great world struggle. Mr P. S. McLean said they all recognised in Mr. Lloyd George a great leader. Mr Lloyd George had first to fight the Democrats; then he had had a long fight in tho House of Commons, where those of antagonistic feeling seemed indifferent to the welfare of the country. Still theso troubles came up, and this meeting was to approve of his last victory. In the last few months lie had breasted two serious one by Mr Asquith, who made a seemingly unanswerable speech, and the other by Major-General Maurifce, whoso charge was one of falsehood, fraud, and wilful imposition. A motion of appreciation from such a democratic country as this would bo of perhaps greater value to the Prime Minister than a resolution from any other country. Mr McLean then moved as follows:—"We, the citizens of Napier, desire to express our whole-hearted appreciation of your non-party efforts in the conduct of this war. We have viewed with admiration your exertions, which, we trust, will be allowed to continue until victory is attained." The motion was put by the Mayor and carried unanimously, amidst acclamation.

The . Mayor suggested that they should forward the motion to the Prime Minister of England. This was agreed tcv and a collection taken up to pay the cost of the cablegram, which is being sent to Sir James Allen for despatch.
