The Primate of New Zealand (Bishop IS evil]) yesterday celebrated his Slst birthday.
The Hon. H. L. Michel, M.L.C., who attended the recent Communication of the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand in Wellington, is in Christchurch. He leaves for Hokitika to-day.
Mr William Reece and Mr James Jamiesou, directors of the WestportStoekton Coal Company, leave this morning on the periodical directors' visit to the company's mine at Ngakawau.
A Press Association. message from Wellington confirms the report (published in "The Press" two or tnree weeks ago) that Major-General E. W C. Chaytor, N.Z.S.C., General Officer Commanding the Anzac Mounted Division in Palestine, has been knighted.
The Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, left for Orari and Rangitata by the express Yesterday, lie will confer with River Board members in those districts and return to Christchurch this evening, going on io Wellington to-morrow evening.
The Hon. Sir William Fraser, Minister of Public Works, arrives from Wellington this morning and goes on to Loburn and Oxford. Tbo Minister returns to Christchurch in the evening, and to-morrow morning leaves for the south.
