CHANCES OF A WALK-OVER
(special to "the press.")
GREYMOUTH, May 10,
There is little excitement over the coming election. Mr Coates lias securest rooms, and has set up a committee, but has made no other sign. He is Y«>ry refelpgi# fls \o his intentions, but it is freely rumoured that Mr Holland will have a walk-over.
Tho actual trouble that has arisen in connexion with Mr Coates's candidature has not been made known. ■ The fleform Pjtrty recognise that the seat is q. _l4beral ane, and ore quite prepared to support Mr Coates, whether lie comes out as an Independent or as a Liberal. The supporters of the latter | party are very luke-warm at present, and Mr Coates has received very little encouragement froni them. Should Mr Coates withdraw, there is little likelihood of anyone else filling the gap. Mr .Holland has already covered a good portion of the electorate. A definite answer from Mr Coates is expected tfcmprrpw, when the writ will probably he issued.
