COUNTY COUNCILS.

TAWERA. At the last meeting of the Tawera County Council tliero were present:—Messrs Seymour (chairman), Atkinson, McAlpine, Millar, Milliken, and Kutherford. A letter was read from the Canterbury Progress League, inviting a representative from tli® Council to attend its next meeting. Mr McAlpine was asked to attend on behalf of the Council.

The manager, Mount Torlesao Coal Co., forwarded plan regarding deviation of road. It was decided that Mr Miilixen should inspect before the Council finally agreed to the alteration.

A letter km read from the, Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, with a statement of estimated receipts and expenditure for this year, also the amount of levy on each district. It was considered that these levies were becoming very high, considering tlio small number of eases from Tawera, County. The Post and Telegraph Department wrote elating that it had been decided to change the name of tho telephone office, Haupapa to Crnigioburn, and the post and telephone office, Vi'lvat-arania to Avoca. A petition was received from Heearß P. H. "Watirine and eleven other ratepayers, asking to hav© Lahman's road formed and gravelled. It waa decided to inspect tb© road. Messrs Carpenter and Furguseon waited on the Council with reference to widening and raising Skewbridgc. It was decided, on the motion of the chairman, that the Eyre County Council be asked to meet the members of the Council at the Skewbridgc on' Thursday nezi.

A statement was received from the Hospital Board of the estimated expenditure and portionmenta of the lories over the vanoua district*, the County's proportion being £1415 Us Bd, an increase of £183 IS* on last year's payment. It was decided to call the attention cf the Banger to the number of cattle wandering on the^roads. The'clerk reported that up to the present only £122 29 liad been received towards the Y.M.C.A. appeal.
