LAWN TENNIS.
HALSWELt CLUB. The annual meeting of the Halswcll Lawn Tennis Club was -well attended. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Tho report showed that eleven, friendly matches had been played doling the season, •the Halswell Club winning eight matches and loeing three. A successful Red Cross tournament had been lield, resulting in tbe eum of £3 6s (id being raised for the local Red Croea Fnnd. The club members who had loft for active service during the year were C. Murphy, A. "Waugh, H. I. Down, L. B. Petrie, J. S. Temple ton, and A. E. Mercer. Ifr J. Mercer's trophies for the most improved lady players during the season were won by Mies Comber and Miss Itoyna. Tbe balance-eheet showed a credit balance of £4 10s 7d. With a view of inducing young players to take an interest in tho game, it was decided to allow district boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 16 to play on the oourts during nest season free of charge. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr E. Paterson; vice-presidents, Mrs Paterson, Mi&a Ell, Eev. C. C. Oldham, atd Mcesrs B. McMillan and G. Robinson; secretary, Mr "W. Gardiner; treasurer, Miss Moyna; clnb captain, Mr J. Mercer, jun. ; committee. Mrs Hodgen, Miss Comber, Miss Muirson, Miss Green, Miss N. Nottingham, Mies Mercer, and Mr E. W. Smith; auditors, Mies Guiney and Mr W. Murphy.
