NEARLY 20,000 RETURNED MEN

AUCKLAND, May 8. Up to tho end of last month, tho total number of soldiers who had returned to New Zealand was 19,314, said -^' en to-day. Of that number 069 were officers. The men were accounted for as follows:— Discharged from Main Body and Reinforcements .. .. H)080 Discharged from Samoau Force . i 243 Returned to duty .. .. j'gis Died whilo still tinder control of Defence Department .. .. sg In-patients under treatment at Hospitiils and Convalescent Homes 596 Out-patients . .. 521 On sick leave .. 203 Awaiting discharge ... 049 Awaiting return io duty .. .. "90 011 special leave .. .. " 8G Deserted since returning' .. .. 5 Returned men in prison .. " 3 ■ Up to the present about 93,000 men zuive actually left New Zealand with the Expeditionary Forces, while tho men at present in training will swell tho number to rather more than 98,000
