AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Council of the Canterbury Automobile Association met last night, Mr W. H. Tisdall presiding. Th© Wellington Automobile Club wrote thanking the Association for its grant of £3 Ss towards tho coat of tho speed, by-law appeals.

The General Manager of the New Zealand Hallways wrote etating that the bells at the Styx crossing couid not bo moved back. It was decided to ask the Department to shift the bells 25 yarda instead of SO yarda, and to instal louder bolls.

Tho Drainage Board wrote etating that the culvert at Norman's rood was being put in order.

Defence Headquarters at 'Wellington wrote etating that an enquiry was being made as to why tho Association had not been notified of the arrival of troops aa ordered. The following new members were elected: —Dr. Cook, Mrs Cook Mias White, J. Wells, jun., C. S. Forbes, W. Lochhead, B. MbEvedy, R. McConnell, J. Osborne, G. Miller, J, W. Barnard, A. Murray, C. B. Clayton, E. P. H. Bui bury B. Whitcombe, F. Parsons, J. H. Kirkley.

Tho secretary said the Association had about 900 mem be re now.

Mr A. S. Clarkson, reporting for the Soldiers Car Committee, said that the car had made 21 trips, carrying IX2 soldiew and travelling 865 miles. On April 6th the car took six men for a week-end trip to Hanmer Springs. They were billeted at the Queen Mary Hospital. On May Brd there was a crcdit balance of £14 Cs 9d.
