YOUNG WOMAN'S FOOLISH ACT.

A young woman's love for a man led her to adopt unusual means to bring hiin back to her. The sequel was her appearance in the Magistrate's Court yesterday upon a charge of theft. 'She was charged, befovo Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., with having, on oz* about April 24th. last, at Christchurch, stolen a Croix de Guerre medal, valued at £1, the property of S. R. Fusby. Her name was Madgo Curtain. Accused pleaded guilty. It was stated by the police that she slept in the room next to Fusby's at the People's Palace. Asked if she had any explanation to make, accused said slid took the medal for personal reasons.. The case was adjourned for a few minutes to allow Mr Cassidy, who was in Court, to interview tho young woman. Upon the case being resumed, Mr Cassidy and accused's employer related the young woman's story. She had met Fusby at Hanmer Spriags, and they had come back on the train io- ' gother. They had b-e-Ati "sweethearting" for three months, and then he had promised to take her to the theatre, but failed to do so, and he stated that he was going away the next evening, but refused to give her his address. Then she tcok tho medal in order to force him to come back and see her. Accused's employed added that the medal was a bronze one, worth a trifling sum, but- to the man of course it was very valuable. He gave her the best of characters. His Worship had no hesitation in dismissing the case, the plea cf guiltv being withdrawn by leave of the Court.
