COUNTY COUNCILS.

KAIKOURA. The Kuikoura County Council aict on Saturday, Mr F. J. Monk presiding. Cr. Andrew, local member of the Hospital Board, elated that duo precautions were being taken against the spread of infectious disease, and also informed the Council that £GO9 liad been placid on tho Board's estimates for the construction of an infectious diseases ward in Kaikoura Hospital. The Under-Secretary (or J?ublic Works wrote that an additional grant for th© conotruction of the Pubi-Pubi East road had been authorised, bringing- the total up to £<W>. The sccretnry of tho Y.M.C.A. wrote thanking tho Council for ita'grant of £23 and other donations, amounting to £lo Be, and desiring to know what further assistance could be oxpected. Tho chairman and councillors agreed that this was a worthy object, arid it was decidod that, a subscrintion list-- be opened. Messrs Perry, Perry, and Kinnerncy, so!i- ---; ciora, wrote that Mr SnushaJl had, on co:ir I eideratiou, decided to take no lurther steps towards acquiring tho roads on his prooerty, considering that they should be retained ia the interests of future settlement. This was considered to bo 'a further evaeion of the eettlament of the long-standing dispute be-twet-n the Council and the Groenhilla sottiers, and it was resolved that Mr Sniuhall bo given notice to remove obstructions or. the joads by a ccrtain date, otherwise the Council would take steps to remove them. Dr. Young waited on the Council and asked for information ae to the rules of the Kaikoura Hospital regarding admission ond treatment of patienta of a medical practitioner not officially connected with the infit- tut ion. He was informed that the Council was not tho controlling body, and woe not, therefore, aware what rules were in force. The Postmaster-General wrote in, regard to telcphonic communication with Blenheim and tho North, that the matter of the oxtension had been held over till after the war. It was resolved to ask the position with respect to Clarccoc bridgo and Kekerangu. It was resolved that the engineer prepare a report as to the beat means of obviating the trouble at tho l»ynton stream. A deputation consisting of Messrs G Shields, X J. O'Malley, and W. Rnttlcdge, Uatelkecpcrg, waited on the Council asking for a reduction of wharfage rates on beer and spirits, the rateo on which they stated were out of proportion to those charged on other classes of goods.
