AWARDED TO GALLANT AUSTRALIAN. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Australian mid Jv.Z. Cable Association.) (Eeuter's Telegrams.) LONDON. May 3. The Victoria Cross lias been awarded to Sergeant S. ]'. McDougall, of tho Australian infantry, for tho following act: — When the first enemy wave had entered our line, McDougall, on tho flank, charged the enemy's second -\v.avo singlehanded with tho bayonet. He killed) seven men and captured u machine-gun. Ho turned the machine-gun against tho enemy, firing from his hip, nnd inflicting further casualties, and routing the remainder of the wave. McDougall then attacked the first wavo at close quarters until his ammunition was exhausted, when he seized a bayonet and charged the enemy again, killing three and also an officor who was about to kill one of our officers. McDougall then used a Lewis gun against tho enemy, killing many audi enabling us to capture 33 prisoners.
