SWIMMING.
Sin JOHN HALL SHIELD. The yesterday presented the Sir John Hull Shield for '.o tho formal School. The -scholars' were railed to* getber, and Mr Holland, addressing th-?in t referred to Sir John HaJl and to tho object of tlic competition. Prizes in recent swimming competitions also were presented. Mr C. T. Aschman, headmaeter of the school, stated that originally the. only competitorn jor tlio shield this year were two Normal School teams. Jf there had been no further entries the school would not have had the names of its boys inscribed on the shield. In order to nia?vc a competition, Boys* High School, in a tmo sporting 1 spirit, entered a team. He thanked "that school, and also tlw> City Couuci] for the use of the Tepid Bat ha. Tho baths, he flaid. might net pay revenue, but they were efaer.tial iu the interests of swimming, "Referring to the fact that the Xormal School now had won th© shield five years in succcssion, he said that he hoped a better team would comc forward and win it for some other institution.
