MAIL NOTICES

NECESSITY FOR CENSORSHIP With reference to the notification of the departure of overseas mails, as is hcin 2 done in Australia, Sir James Allen told a "Press" reporter yesterday that the matter would have to come before Cabinet. "At present," ho continued, •'the position is that we have definii.' instructions from the Home Country that we are not to relax our censorship in New Zealand. Although Canada was permitted to relax the censorship conditions on a previous occasion, she has been since asked by tho Imperial authorities to rcimposo them. As far as I know that has been done by Canada. It is true that Australia is not exercising the same strict control, but that is <i matter for the Imperial authorities. I want the public to understand that it is not our desire to withhold information, but that we do so simply to save our people and our ships. Too much information has been getting out about the movements of our vessels."
