Mr W. 11. Triggs left for Wellington last night.

Mi.-s .Nci.ll, the recently-appointed matron of the Infectious Diseases Hospital, has resigned her position on account of the illness of her father.

Mr Sidney F. Napper, of Christchurch, has received a commission as lieutenant in the Imperial Flying Corps.

Mr . FT. M. Diamond, chief cTcrk at the Feilding Post Office, has bceu appointed postmaster at Te Aroha. He has been in the Feilding Post Officc for 27 yeare.

Advice has boon received that Lieut. Geoffrey G. Callender, a son of tho general manager of the' Hank of New Zealand, has been awarded tho order of tho Crown of Italy, silver medal, for gallantry on the field' of action.

Mr Frank 11. Dawn lias been appointed temporary assistant registrar of the University of New Zealand during the absence of Sir Comrie on activo service. Mr Dawn, who was at one time on the staff of the "Lyttelton TLmcs,'' was invalided and discharged from the Army lately. Preference was given to returned soldiers.

Mr G. E. A. "Wilkes, of the New Zealand head office staff of the A.M.P. Society, left Wellington on Tuesday for Greymouth. where he will take up the position of branch manager for tho Society. He. was fare.welled by the Wellington staff, when Mr E. AY. Lowe (manager for New Zealand* presented him, on behalf of the staff, with a travelling bag.

Our London correspondent writes: — The Rev. A. D. Tupper-Carey, M.A., Canon and Prebendary of York Minster, has accepted appointment to the Vicarage of Hudderstield —a living in the gift of Sir J. F. Eamsden, Bart. Previous to taking up the work of Diocesan Missiouer of York, Canon Tupper-Carey was Vicar of Lowestoft for nine years. He was out in New Zealand with tho Mission of Help, and he lias been prominent in the recent National Mission in this country. Mrs Tupper-Carey is an enthusiastic mission worker, too.

Dr. Adams, oj' Wellington, has received news by the mail that his only son, Lieut, llobert Soften Adams, has been promoted to a captaincy in the Royal l''icld Artillery (Imperial Army). The appointment was dated from August. 191fi. Captain Adams was educated at The Terrace School and at Wellington. College, which he left to go to Cambridge University. Ho lias been twice mentioned in despatches. He was at tho battle of Fricourt, and lias been at all the subsequent battles in that region. Ho far, lie has never been ■wounded.

•Sergeant Frank Verkins, Otago's sprint champion, has been distinguishing himself ou the athletic field in France (telegraphs our Dunedin correspondent). In a letter to the president of the Dunedin Centre of the New Zealand Amateur A till otic Association, he says:—"A championship meeting was held in France on Anzac Day. The events were IJctwean. six Australian divisions and the New Zealand division, each division being allowed only one competitor. I was selected to represent New Zealand, so I immediately went into training with A. E. Thompson, the West Coast boxer, as trainer. Tho day was beautifully fine, and I am pleased to say I ran up to my old form, winning tho 100 yds and 220 yds."

Itoniarkablv congratulatory telegrams wero read from tho King and Queen, from Queen Alexandra, and from Princess Christian, who liavo all for many years been interested in tho Society's operations. The King's message read: "To tho officers and voluntary workers of your Society in. their endeavours to emulate the devoted servico rendered by Sir John Ijvirk for half a century. I am to convey his Majesty's congratulations to Sir John Kirk on this occasion, and also to your Society, on having for so ■long enjoyed the benpfit of his guidance and support in its activities."

Tho Rev. Canon "W*. S. Bean, who to-morrow completes 35 years' servico as vicar of St. Mary's, Aldington, has had a lengthy and fruitful clerical career. Ho was ordained deacon by tho late Bishop Harper in St. Michael's in 1881; priest, in tho Cathedral, in 1883; was curate of St. Michael's from 1881 to 1883; of Malvern, from 1883' to 1888; of Kumara, Stafford, and Wairoea, from 1883 to 1892; and since 1892 he has boon vicar of Addington. During tho period he has been at Addington, Canon Bean has been offered threo cures —those of St. John's, Christchurch, I'apanui, and Terauka, but declined cach of them. .In .1913 he was appointed ' a Canon of Christchurch Cathedral. Sinoo 1892 lie has been chaplain to tho No. 1 Company N.Z.E. He is an ex-president of the Christ's College Old Boys' Association, a patron, of tho Addington Swimming Club, and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the. lloyal Humane Society of Now Zealand since the inception of the -Society. On March 31st, 1891, Canon Bean was married to a daughter of tho lato Rt. Hon. R. J. Soddon. During the years Canon Boon has been at Addington, he has witnessed tho growth of tho district and its general development. During his incumbency St: Mary's Church has been twice enlarged, and tho vicarage ar.d schoolroom have also been twicc enlarged. In connexion with tho completion of Canon Bean's 2.5 th year as ■vicar of Addington, a special service is to be held in St. Mary's to-morrow oveninc, when the Rev. E. Eliot Cham, bc-rs, Canon Bean's oldest AVest Coast friend, will proach. On Sunday tho vicar will officiate at the customary, sorvices. On 'Monday evening Canon and Mrs Bean will bo tho guests of the parishioners at a social gathering.
