"In the great cause for which tboy arc fighting they are being called upon to face dangers, and difficulties, and BntisTi citizens all over. >- tho world appreciate this fact. Our . gallant lads have willingly taken up tlie burden of Empire, and will cheerfully carry their share right to tbe end, whenever the end mav come, and wherever it may bo. They know that in coming to this side of the world thoy arc not only doing their duty to tho Empire, but they are defending their own just as truly as if the war was being fought out under the Southern Cross instead of mostly on the battlefields of Europe and Ecrvpt. The* are doing their duty to New Zealand, and New Zealand will do its duty to them. The love and admiration of tho citizonß of the Dominion go out to their soldiers and sailors, and wo trust to. hfvvo the opportunity in the not for distant future of welcoming them back benrinjr vicforv and honour to the homes from which they set out to ficht « the battle of Kinor and Empire, and of freedom and civilisation."
