THE LOSS OF THE OTAKI.
FATE OF THE CREW. POSTCARD FROM GERMANY. The New Zealand Shipping Company has received the following postcard from Mr R. McNish, Into chief officer of tho company's steamer Oiak), who is now a prisoner at Karlsruhe, in Germany:— I beg to state that tho s.s. Otaki was sunk on the 10th March by a German cruiser. I regret to state the following casualties : — Captain Smith, went down with liis shipChiof steward (Mr Willis), drowned Kilner (apprentice), Martin (apprentice), Kencston (ordinary seaman), and A. H. Little third engineer), killed. Glitz (trimmor), leg amputated. Jackson (A.8.), Pavno (apprentice), Lancaster, Randall, and Groves (fireman), wounded (not serious). And several slightly wounded. All hands lost every stitch they had except what they stood up in. Please excuse the nost"ard, but it is all I am allowed to write.
